His leadership affected it because of his naval ranking. Since he was so high in the navy, people starting getting jealous, and accused him of piracy. Originally, he lived in Kingdom of Great Britian, his father was a gardener, so he had come a long way from that. After that, he went to America, became a Naval Officer. Eleven years later, he went to the Russian Empire and became Rear Admiral. Hope that helped!
