How did the Constitution overcome the weaknesses of the Articles of Confederation?

The constitution was more powerful than the Articles, and it gave the government some rights that it needed to govern the country, that the Articles didn't read, such as rising taxes.
Also, the new government had more power- power was centralized in the federal government at the cost of state authorities.
