Which of the following is a solution of x^2 - 2x = -8?

x^2-2x=-8  add 1 to both sides

x^2-2x+1=-7  now the left side is a perfect square

(x-1)^2=-7  take the square root of both sides

x-1=±√-7  add 1 to both sides

x=1±√-7 which is

x=1±i√7  so

x=1+i√7 and 1-i√7
