Because of the vibration of the string. since it is vibrating it will make the other air molecules vibrate as well and air vibrating is basically a sound wave.
When a guitar string vibrates, it sets surrounding air molecules into motion. The frequency of vibration of these air molecules is the same as that of a guitar string.
