Can anybody please tell me what a allele is?

ALLELES are different forms of the same gene.

There are usually two alleles in each gene. A dominant and recessive allele.

Example: the alleles for eye color could be brown, blue, green, etc. and whatever is more dominant is what will appear as the trait.
